VisionLink

Thriving means more than simply improving your skills—it also means opportunities to enjoy yourself in all that life has to offer VisionLink is dedicated to assisting all who are living with vision loss to achieve greater independence through excellence in education and wrap-around support services that advance necessary skills and establish meaningful community connections. VisionLink is committed to collaborating with local, regional and national partners to broaden access to resources and opportunities that enable those we serve to live their lives to the fullest.

VisionLink provides services to anyone aged 18 and over. More than 70% of our participants are over 55 with 45% over 65 who are experiencing blindness or some kind of visual impairment.  We provide opportunities to learn more about vision loss and vision impairment as well as education and training programs.

What we offer gives individuals the tools and information that can support their independence. According to VisionServe Alliance National’s December 2022 report: older adults with vision impairment report poorer overall health and quality of life; Greater risk of compromised independence and autonomy.

VisionLink seeks to inspire all who are living with vision loss to thrive. Services include:

  • Vision Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) and Independent Living Classes (Home Management) – Training in the use of compensatory skills including beginner braille and assistive technology that will enable individuals to live safe, productive, and independent lives.
  • Low Vision Services – Individualized training designed to develop and strengthen the ability to navigate, communicate, and engage more fully in everyday life with the goal of maximizing your safety and enjoyment.  VisionLink provides referrals to low vision professionals and other wraparound resources for individuals experiencing low vision.
  • Assistive Technology Classes and Workshops – No matter their current skill or comfort level with technology, VisionLink can expand a participant’s digital and technological literacy to help them overcome challenges, and expand their ability to learn, communicate, and engage in everyday life in the digital world.

Orientation and Mobility (O&M) training – O&M is provided through one-on-one instruction with certified skilled trainers according to an individual’s goals and abilities. This personalized instruction will help individuals gain the sense of freedom that traveling with a white cane can provide

At VisionLink, we partner with some of the region’s most notable organizations to help participants discover new interests and reconnect with activities they may have enjoyed in the past. This is one of our most important roles in helping participants shape and refine their goals for independent living. The VisionLink community also helps participants make new personal connections, whether in a support group with others facing similar challenges, casual time with peers in less-structured settings, or social outings and activities.
