The MLV Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit serving visually impaired and blind individuals in Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas (MOKA). Our mission is to connect people through a variety of programs, fostering independence and raising awareness about visual impairment challenges. We strive to serve the over 400,000 visually impaired individuals in our region, helping them find purpose and embrace “life after blindness”.

Our journey began when Debbie Sanders, our President and Founder, was diagnosed with Glaucoma in 2003 and declared legally blind by 2013. Driven by her “limitless vision” and desire to serve, Debbie established the MLV Foundation with the support from close friends. Her initiatives include the MOKA Conference for the Blind, Hooks, Oars, and S’mores fishing event, the Adaptive Sports Field, retreats for the newly blind, social excursions, and hospitality industry training videos. And soon to open, the Orbit Training Center for the Blind.

As a 100% volunteer-run organization, we rely on grants, donations, and fundraisers. Our diverse board includes both visually impaired and sighted members, united in our mission to ENHANCE lives, ENCOURAGE independence, and EXPAND awareness.

Key programs:

1. MOKA Conference: Annual gathering for education and networking
2. Adaptive sports: beep baseball and kickball, blind archery and soccer, fishing and more
3. Intensive Weekend Retreats: Support for newly blind individuals
4. Social trips and excursions: Building community and confidence
5. Hospitality industry training: Improving service for visually impaired patrons

Our impact extends beyond direct services. We work to change perceptions, promote inclusivity, and create opportunities for visually impaired individuals to lead fulfilling lives. By connecting people with resources, experiences, and each other, we help build a more inclusive society.

Join us in our mission to empower the visually impaired community. Whether through volunteering, donations, or spreading awareness, your support can make a significant difference in someone’s life. Together, we can show that vision loss doesn’t mean losing sight of life’s possibilities.
