GuideLights And Gadgets is a 10 year old company run by two blind entrepreneurs who also just happen to be married: Barry Scheur and KaeAnn Rausch. Kae has a passion for “all things dog” and handler-related; Barry’s excuse is the need to satisfy a shopping addiction, constantly in search of the best accessible medical products, leather bags, pouches, phone cases, and electronic gadgets that are practical and affordable for blind consumers.
Our mission is to guide our customers to products that meet their specific needs and that will work for them. It could be a unique case to hold a Braille display, or a pouch to allow you to use your phone hands-free while working with AIRA; or a bone conduction bluetooth headset that allows you to still use your hearing aids. If we feel that a product will not enhance a customer’s abilities or skills, we prefer not to sell it to them. No sale is worth a dissatisfied customer.
We are best known for products in seven categories:
o Our titanium telescopic locking and non-collapsing canes;
o Our wide variety of leather products: hands-free neck pouches, waist packs, protective cases for Braille displays and other devices, shoulder and cross-body bags, and lots more;
o Our line of highly accurate talking medical products, in partnership with a company that makes talking and non-talking medical grade devices for the health care industry;
o The full line of High quality Swiss Braille watches from Auguste Reymonde
o Products for guide dogs and their handlers that encompass safety, security, grooming, and of course, lots of toys;
o Specialized electronic products that we have found useful, including some we have manufactured;
o We are a national distributor for the Braille products of Orbit Research, Inc, and book players from Hims and Humanware.
