Braille and Talking Book Library, Sacramento

The Braille and Talking Book Library (BTBL) in Sacramento is a branch of the California State Library which cooperates with the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS), a section of the Library of Congress. The audio and braille books as well as the digital talking book and refreshable braille display players BTBL checks out are provided by NLS. The California State Library directly administers the program in Northern California.

The vision of NLS is “That All May Read.” As such, BTBL’s mission is to provide free and accessible reading material for blind and other print-disabled residents of Northern California. Applicants must be certified by a competent authority as unable to read regular print material. In addition to the standard fare offered by an NLS library, BTBL Sacramento offers an Assistive Technology Lending Program which is comprised of Humanware’s Victor Reader Stream 2 and Explore 5 electronic magnifier as well as the Orbic Speed Mobile Hotspot. These items are available for one-year loan periods.
